Yeah it was a lot of trial and error, and trial and error really sucks with operating system installs, since they generally take 30 minutes each. If you mess something up you get waste another 30 minutes installing it over again. For the time being I'll keep the three OS. I need XP for old video games (really really old ones). I need Vista for new video games that take advantage of DirectX 10, and Kubuntu was just nice to have, basically to eliminate using a LiveCD.

Sounds like a lot of work, but it's good to see that you got it working. Now you should throw some variety of BSD (Open, Free, or Net) on there too yet, since it's not quite Linux. Not sure that I would bother with Vista ;)

Have one of those already, got it for about $19 after shipping (or maybe free shipping?). Seems to work pretty well. Another idea is to use it with a surge protector to test an entire computer system at once. Of course, don't overload the poor thing in the process. It's amazing, a CRT uses about 10 more watts to display a solid white screen than it does a solid black one, whereas it makes no noticeable difference on an LCD.

Otherwise... pretty clever trick. I made a page (super secret URL) on my site where you feed it the video ID from YouTube, and it grabs the video file (flv) and saves it onto my server. From there, I can download it at my own leisure, even resume the download later. Plus, if YT chooses to yank the video, I still can finish downloading it. The flv files seem to play well in VLC.

Neal,

I was looking for something entirely different on the web when I came across a fellow Grosskopf. As you know, our last names are not exactly Smith or Patel. I have an Uncle Neil Grosskopf as well. Nice job on the web and great going in school. I've been doing websites on the side as well so please check out www.neatnessweb.com

I did find an answer to your problem. It may not work in all cases but on a test page, I was able to make this work. You can use a negative margin on decedent images of external link anchors. Remember to substitute the negative padding with the opposite of the padding on the anchor tag.

a[href^="http"]
{
background: url(/images/template/external.gif) no-repeat center right;
padding-right: 13px;
}

a[href^="http"] img { margin-right: -13px; }

I've usually circumvented this by applying a class to image tags within anchors, something like class="nostyle". This isn't the most ideal way to go about it but it works. There isn't a way (via CSS anyways) to traverse the DOM going up. You can only select downwards such as A > IMG. You cannot do IMG < A.

Wow, great detective work there. It looks like maybe they just do an internal replacing of anything <image> to <img>. You should try other ways of targeting image vs. img to see what treats them the same, and what doesn't. For example, do an alert(imageObject); vs. alert(imgObject); to see if they give the same answer.
